Due to the fact that the Young Dawgs Summer program ended last week, this week was spent winding down, organizing information for the past and future students, planning for next summer, as well as practicing our new plan that we have been working on for the Engage! Conference. Organizing the student information was my smallest task of the week. For the past students, I created an excel sheet consisting of their names, 810 numbers, and high schools to give to the admissions office to see which students had decided to come to UGA in the fall. For the future students, …

Week 8 (7/2 – 7/6)
This week was the last week of the Young Dawgs Summer 2018 program so it was a little different. On Monday night I finally got to implement my big plan that I had been working on for the kids to help them relax before their big presentations. This plan consisted of a contest reflecting over their time spent here this summer. Overall I would say that this plan was a success because the students were laughing the entire time. On Tuesday and Thursday I helped judge the final presentations the students have been working on for the entire program. On …
Week 7 (6/24 – 6/28)
This week consisted of many practice presentations due to the fact that the program comes to an end next week. During each practice presentation I gave advice to each student as how to make improvements. I felt like this was an important role because I could tell the students were very nervous presenting a college presentation in front of a large audience. My other main task for this week regarding the students consists of planning and implementing activities in the evenings. These activities included shaving cream fights, freeze tag, ships and sailors, as well as other fun, engaging activities. I …
Week 6 (6/17 – 6/22)
This week was a little bit different than a normal week. I made sure that the students got to participate in fun activities in order to release stress they may have as the program gets close to the end. On Sunday night I took a few students to the Founder’s Garden and allowed them to take pictures. They had a great time soaking up the sun after being indoors all day. We then walked downtown to get some food and desserts. On Monday night all of the students participated in fun games such as ships and sailors, basketball, tag, etc. …
Week 5 (6/10 – 6/15)
This week was very similar to the last regarding the structure. Sunday through Tuesday nights I spent time with the students staying at the dorms. However, this week they had practice presentations, so I assisted with those. After, I returned to the dorms to play stress relieving games and activities. For instance, one evening the students participated in a scavenger hunt around the dorm. The students were all smiling and laughing, so I felt like I was doing my job! During the days I have been organizing, vising students at their sites, and watching practice presentations for students who are …
Week 4 (6/3 – 6/8)
This week was the first “normal” week of the program we have had. I began on Sunday night by meeting the students staying in the dorms for check in. That night, as well as the following two nights, I spent time with the students by walking them to get dinner and dessert from downtown, watching television, going on a walk through north campus, playing games and sports such as card games and basketball, and talking about their days and concerns. I feel that these activities with the students are very important for their mental health. These students are minors participating …
Week 3 (5/28-6/1)
This week Young Dawgs, the program I am interning for, officially began. On Monday, May 28th the students who are staying in the dorms moved in. My job this week was slightly different from the first two weeks. During the mornings I would still go to the Training and Development Center and work on organizing student information, visit students at their sites, plan activities for the evening, and work on the newsletters. During the evenings I spend time with the students after their internships playing games and eating dinner. This helps them to relax and get rid of their stress. …
Week 2 (5/21 – 5/25)
During the second week at my internship site, Young Dawgs, I continued to prepare for the start of the program. In order to prepare, I spent time organizing all information and paperwork, worked on the newsletter, met with the counselors, and helped the participating students with training and meeting their supervisors. When visiting with the supervisors, I helped develop a plan for what the students will be doing during the program. I am very eager for the program to officially begin and see the students hard at work! As mentioned in the previous post, due to the fact that the …
Week 1 (5/14 – 5/17)
I began working at my internship site, Young Dawgs, on Monday, May 14th. I have completed various types of work throughout my time here to prepare for the students who are coming to participate. The program does not officially start until Monday the 28th, so a lot of my work now is preparing and organizing. This work includes organizing all student and supervisor information, developing proposals, creating schedules and newsletters for students, and gathering and organizing information for the program that will take place in the fall. Additionally, I have visited a few work sites for students who began early …
