Week 5 (6/10 – 6/15)

This week was very similar to the last regarding the structure. Sunday through Tuesday nights I spent time with the students staying at the dorms. However, this week they had practice presentations, so I assisted with those. After, I returned to the dorms to play stress relieving games and activities. For instance, one evening the students participated in a scavenger hunt around the dorm. The students were all smiling and laughing, so I felt like I was doing my job! During the days I have been organizing, vising students at their sites, and watching practice presentations for students who are not staying in the dorms. I have found it very useful for me to attend these practice presentations because they can be very stressful for a young high school student and my attendance can be very reassuring and encouraging. In fact, their entire internship can be very stressful. Majority of these students are working in research labs, something that is not a normal activity for an adolescent. Although they are having a blast, I can tell that they are extremely exhausted and stressed out. This is why I feel my job is very important. My goal for this internship is to decrease the rates of stress and anxiety for these students so they are able to have the best experience possible! I have listed the corresponding responsibilities and competencies for the previous activities below.
