Week 2 (5/21 – 5/25)

During the second week at my internship site, Young Dawgs, I continued to prepare for the start of the program. In order to prepare, I spent time organizing all information and paperwork, worked on the newsletter, met with the counselors, and helped the participating students with training and meeting their supervisors. When visiting with the supervisors, I helped develop a plan for what the students will be doing during the program. I am very eager for the program to officially begin and see the students hard at work! As mentioned in the previous post, due to the fact that the program does not officially begin until the evening of May 28th I have only demonstrated a few of my responsibilities and competencies thus far. I have listed the corresponding responsibilities and competencies for the previous activities below.

  • Responsibility II: Plan Health Education Strategies, Interventions and Programs
    • Competency A: Involve people and organizations in program planning
      • identify populations for health education programs
      • elicit input from those who will affect or be affected by the program
      • obtain commitment from individuals who will be involved
      • develop plans for promoting collaborative efforts among health agencies and organizations with mutual interests
    • Competency C: Formulate appropriate and measurable program objectives
      • design developmentally appropriate interventions
    • Competency F: Select appropriate strategies to meet objectives
      • match health education services to proposed program activities
  • Responsibility III: Implement Health Education Strategies, Interventions and Programs
    • Competency B: demonstrate a variety of skills in delivering strategies, interventions and programs
      • use instructional technology effectively
  • Responsibility V: Administer Health Education Strategies, Interventions and Programs
    • Competency A: exercise organizational leadership
      • conduct strategic planning
      • analyze the organization’s culture in relationship to program goals
      • promote cooperation and feedback among personnel related to the program
    • Competency C: manage human resources
